When US presidential candidate John McCain used Paris Hilton’s image without her permission in a political advertisement earlier this week, she wasn’t impressed. The ad compared his popular rival, Barack Obama, to ditzy celebrities like Paris and Britney Spears. So Paris filmed a response video, which you can watch here.

Reclining in a swimsuit in her back garden, Paris calls 71-year-old McCain “the oldest celebrity in the world” and a “wrinkly white-haired guy” from “the olden days”. The heiress also jokes that she’s “totally ready” to lead America before launching into an impressive spiel on her plans to solve the US energy crisis. It’s definitely worth a watch.

Obviously Paris has had help with the video, but she deserves full marks for being so willing to poke fun at herself and her ditzy persona.

Morgan Freeman is in a serious condition after being involved in a car crash in Mississippi on Sunday night, US time.

According to local reports, the 71-year-old actor was driving along the Mississippi Highway when his car went off the road and flipped several times.

Freeman and his passenger were cut free from the car by emergency crews and airlifted to a Memphis hospital. According to reports, the star was conscious and talking at the scene. "All I can say is one word: his condition is 'serious,'" a hospital spokesperson told reporters.

The prolific actor can currently be seen in The Dark Knight.

UPDATE: Morgan Freeman broke his left arm and shoulder, but is on the mend after undergoing four-and-a-half hours of surgery to reconnect nerves and repair damage to his arm and hand.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have introduced their twins to the world in a photo spread in Hello! magazine.

Three weeks after the birth of Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, the stars reveal how the newborns are settling in with their four other children, Maddox, 7, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and two-year-old Shiloh. “It is chaos,” Angelina admits, “but we are managing it and having a wonderful time.”

The couple also used the interview to dismiss rumours they had IVF treatment. "If they had been conceived through IVF, we would have been happy to discuss it. But we have been fortunate never to have had fertility problems," Angelina said.

The family of eight are spending time at their rented mansion in Provence, but are expected to move back to the US in the coming weeks.

Britney’s father will remain in control of her finances and personal affairs for the rest of the year, after a judge extended Jamie Spears’s power over many aspects of his daughter’s life.

Jamie was named the legal conservator of Britney’s estate on February 1 after his troubled daughter was sectioned twice January. His powers were due to expire this week.

"The extension of the conservatorship was at the request and suggestion of Britney's doctors," a friend told People magazine. "They've indicated she's made great improvement, but it's a work in progress. Jamie Spears doesn't want the conservatorship to last a day longer than the doctors recommend."

Britney’s father has control over who she can spend time with, and has appointed 24 hour bodyguards to keep her out of trouble. Earlier this week, a temporary restraining order against Britney’s one-time friend and manager, Sam Lufti, expired, but apparently the singer has no desire to have him back in her life. Mother Lynne Spears had accused Lufti of drugging her daughter.

Amy Winehouse was rushed to hospital last night for the second time in just over a month.

An ambulance was called to her Camden home at 8pm. She was given oxygen and placed in a wheelchair before being transported to the A&E unit at University College Hospital. 

Amy’s spokesperson blamed her condition on an adverse reaction to medication. Chris Goodman said: "She was taking a new [medication] as part of her anti-drug treatment programme. And it was an adverse reaction to that new drug. You have to try different things but unfortunately this was not the right one."

Amy’s father Mitch was photographed arriving at the hospital at 11pm with bags full of KFC and, thankfully, the 24-year-old was discharged at 9.45am this morning.

Peaches Geldof has called the suspected drug overdose she suffered on Sunday a “minor incident”, despite The Sun claiming the 19-year-old had to be given ‘the kiss of life’ when a friend found her unconscious at her home.

“Peaches has made a full recovery from the minor incident reported in today’s papers,” a statement from her management company read. “After attending last night’s Batman premiere in Leicester Square, she is looking forward to work as usual today.”

According to The Sun, paramedics revived the star after she was found unconscious and not breathing following a suspected drug overdose in her north London flat. The teenager apparently refused to be taken to hospital for observation and was well enough to attend the premiere of The Dark Knight on Monday.

Peaches’ mother, Paula Yates, died of a heroin overdose in 2000.

Christian Bale should be enjoying the afterglow of last night’s star-studded Dark Knight premiere in Leicester Square, and the recent news that the film broke US box office records for the biggest opening weekend ever.

But instead, the Welsh-born actor is at Belgravia police station in central London, being questioned on suspicion of assaulting two family members – his mother and sister, who both live in Dorset.

According to reports, the family members met up at the Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane ahead of Monday night’s film premiere, and a row erupted. The Sun states that Christian’s mother and sister went straight to the police to report the alleged incident, but detectives decided not to arrest the star until after the premiere.

Bale had a busy day of interviews scheduled to publicise The Dark Knight (including a chat with the MSN Movies Editor, Ed Holden) but instead he’s facing a different kind of interview at a central London police station.

Blake Fielder-Civil has been sentenced to over two years in jail for assaulting a man in 2006 and then attempting to bribe him to cover up the crime.

Amy was not present in the courtroom in East London when the sentence was handed down today. The 27-month sentence dashes any hopes the singer had that her husband would be released soon – he’s already spent months behind bars awaiting the trial, and Amy was confident of his early release and had been planning a ‘welcome home’ party.

On sentencing Fielder-Civil, Judge David Radford said he had acted in a “gratuitous, cowardly and disgraceful” way towards the victim, pub landlord James King.

UPDATE: According to reports, Blake could be released for good behaviour in just four and a half months!

After over two years in the courts, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline have reached a settlement in their custody battle.

Surprisingly for some, Britney has agreed that Kevin should retain sole custody of their two sons, Sea n Preston and Jayden James. The singer will continue to have visitation rights – she currently gets one overnight visit with the boys per week, plus two daytime visits. Britney and Kevin will face each other in court on Friday as a formality, where the judge is expected to approve the settlement.

Not surprisingly, K-Fed is thrilled with the outcome, while Britney expects that her access will increase over time once she regains control of her finances and personal affairs (at present, dad Jamie Spears runs her estate).

The doctor who delivered Brad and Angelina’s new bundles of joy in France over the weekend has revealed more details about the birth.

Knox Leon was born on Saturday at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice; sister Vivienne Marcheline followed one minute later. Angelina’s obstetrician, Dr Michel Sussmann, confirmed that Brad was present at the birth and even cut the umbilical cords.

“It was an epidural, so Angelina was awake and speaking and laughing. They were happy,” Sussmann told reporters. “He was perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved and very emotional,” the doctor said of Brad, adding “he was my assistant!”

The first photos of the newborns are set to break records with one US magazine reported offering $11m, which Brad and Ange plan to donate to charity.

Poor Becks... since moving to America and joining LA Galaxy, he’s confessed he often has trouble understanding his teammates’ accents.

“I must say I’ve had a few issues on that front,” David admitted. “I sometimes say something and some of the players don’t understand me. Then they say things and I don’t have a clue what they are going on about.”

And despite being in the US for nearly 12 months, Becks isn’t any closer to mastering the ‘language’:
“The other day a teammate said they had a raspberry, or it may have been strawberry. I can’t remember. They were talking about a grass burn! I couldn’t get my head around that one."

Surely it’s not as difficult as Real Madrid, where many of his teammates didn’t speak much English, and Becks only spoke beginner Spanish?

Nicole Kidman has given birth to a baby daughter and named her Sunday Rose Kidman Urban.

The baby, born in Nashville on Monday (not Sunday!), is the actress’s first child with husband Keith Urban. Nicole also has two adopted children with ex-husband Tom Cruise: Isabella, 15, and Connor, 13.

A spokesperson confirmed the birth and said the couple were “delighted”: “Husband Keith was by Nicole’s side, and mother and baby are very well,” Paul Freundlich told reporters.

The happy couple, both native Australians who live full-time in Nashville, celebrated their second anniversary on June 25.

Wearing a frock covered in stars, Kylie Minogue sparkled at Buckingham Palace this week when she received an OBE from Prince Charles for services to the music industry, after more than 20 years in showbiz.

Kylie arrived at the palace in a black limo with her parents in tow, and later spoke of about how thrilled she was to receive the honour from the Prince of Wales. “He asked me what I’m up to at the moment and said he is happy to see me better. I knew I would be nervous. I was very excited and to have my family here was magical.”

“It is an incredible honour for me to receive this award. It makes me feel both humble and proud to be recognised for doing a job that I love so much.”

In other news, Kylie has denied rumours she is back with her boyfriend of four years, Olivier Martinez, after the pair were snapped getting touchy-feely on a lunch date in Paris recently. “It was good to catch up and we’re still good friends, but there was nothing more in it than that,” the 40-year-old songstress said.
